A Tribute to Sydney

Born on the sun-warmed shores of Mauritius, in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Sydney carried with him throughout his life the warmth and spirit of that island paradise. The youngest of three children, he grew up shaped by hard work, a curious mind, a joyful spirit, and a passion for travel, music, and old movies — values that would define every chapter of his journey.

Life brought Sydney many blessings, and none greater than his wife Francesse, the woman who would walk beside him through all of it for almost 60 years. Together they built a home, a life, and a love that endured across oceans and continents.

In 2018, they crossed the world to Canada — not in search of something new, but to be near what mattered most: their daughters, Nathalie and Isabelle. It was a testament to the man he was. A father who would travel any distance, cross any sea, to be present in the lives of those he loved — not forgetting his son Denis in France, his sons and daughter in law- Manon, Alain and Edith, his four grandchildren, and his two great-grandchildren.

Sydney's story is one of devotion — to his roots, to his wife, to his children. He reminds us that home is not a place, but the people we choose to be near. And in that, he leaves behind a legacy as enduring as the ocean that first cradled him.

Losing a brother is one of the most painful experiences life can bring. Saying goodbye carries the weight of love and cherished memories that can never be replaced.

It would take a lifetime to express all the cherished memories and kindness that have been among the many gifts you have given to us. Your absence will never be filled. It leaves a void in my heart that can never be replaced.

The pain of your loss is very heavy, but the privilege of being your brother was a blessing. Though you have gone, your spirit will always live on in everything I do. Your presence will always be felt through your unique laughter, your jokes, your brilliant mind, and your good advice.

You brought us to so many wonderful places with your stories. I feel less pain knowing that you are now in a better place, where angels are watching over our family from Heaven.

Our frequent telephone calls will no longer exist, but our communication will continue through the daily prayers that will be said. Though we can no longer speak as we once did, our bond remains unbroken.

Goodbye, brother, and please be lenient with me for not having the right words to express my feelings. You have been so exceptional that words alone cannot adequately describe the impact you have had on my life.

I will miss your unique laughter, your jokes, your insightful mind, and your wise advice. The memories you gave us will remain in our hearts forever.

Though you are gone, your spirit will always remain with us, and your love will continue to guide us.

Rest in peace, dear brother. You will always be loved, remembered, and cherished.

Until we meet again

When I think of Uncle Syd, the adjective that comes to mind is: IMPOSING!

Uncle Syd never went unnoticed! He commanded attention through his physical presence, but also through his booming voice and his hearty laugh.

Uncle Syd embodied authority when we were children. A single look from him and we would go and hide, but he was also the person we turned to whenever we had worries. He was a great source of support whenever we needed him.

As I grew older, I realized that Uncle Syd represented stability and reliability for his family, for those who knew him, and professionally as well.

Uncle Syd loved having people over to his home, because he knew that Aunt Francesse would treat us to her delicious homemade dishes. He gave his children far more than just a sense of hospitality, passing on many other values as well.

We will never forget the wonderful times we spent together, whether in Mauritius or in Vancouver…the bursts of laughter and the old stories he would tell us thanks to his remarkable memory.

Uncle Syd, you will remain a pillar of our family, and we will never forget you!

Thank you for everything you brought into our lives over the years.

Rest in peace, dear Uncle Syd.

Your niece, Zoli Mooney.

Dear Tonton Sydney,

As I reflect on my memories of you and the impact you had on my life, I hear your laugh, I see your eyes twinkle every time you see Francesse, I hear your big voice telling a joke, a story or sharing a piece of general knowledge or talking about one of your favourite old movies! I see your delight at the idea of having some “good food” especially some desert!

I think of you as a monument, a man that had such a presence of course, due to your height, but mainly due to the respect that your person demanded and received- respect for your intelligence, your sense of integrity, your love for your family, your general knowledge and your friendliness.

I am grateful for the memories that I have of you at our Preaudet family events and for the time spent at your house with your family when I visited for weekends! You always challenged me and treated me as your own child!

Rest In Peace Tonton Sydney. I am sure that you are delighting everyone wherever you are with a good story (maybe a cheeky one!!!) and your legendary laugh!

Until we meet again….

We are all very saddened to learn the loss of Sydney. We will remember him fondness for the times he has visited us in London UK from Mauritius.

He has been a very good friend to my late father and to my dear mother as well.

We send you, your mother, your sister and all your family our love, deepest sympathies and most sincere condolences.

May your father receive God's grace and blessings and may his soul rest in eternal peace.

Amen.
