January 1931 - August 2026

With sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for her life and (her) love, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and friend, Margaret Alice Stannard, age 95. Leaving a legacy of cherished memories, she left us in the same spirit in which she lived: with grace, dignity and a quiet strength.

She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Hugh, in 1988. Married in 1954, they shared a life and raised their family in a busy, lively home rich in love, laughter and caring devotion to each other. By example they taught the importance of dedicated service to their church and community. Margaret was also a psychiatric nurse and had a rewarding career working first in North Battleford and Moose Jaw before moving to BC, where after taking a break while her kids were young, she worked at Woodlands Hospital in New Westminster. It was a career that she truly loved, showing so much care and compassion for the patients.

Margaret loved life and lived it fully. Always independent and social, the many friendships she enjoyed throughout her life were a great source of fun, happiness and strength to her. She was a kind, helpful and generous friend who truly understood the value of supporting others.

Margaret's family was always the heart of her world. She loved and cared for her family with everything she had: strongly, faithfully and unconditionally. In her words, "More than anything, I want to be with my family." Her love is sealed in our hearts with all its beauty and grace. We will hold it there forever.

Always, lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Diane; daughter Catherine and husband Darryl, son, Martin and wife Kathleen; and daughter Sharon and husband, Ron; her grandchildren, Mark, David (Cassie), Matthew, Michael (Breanna), Scott, Brian (Kristen), Nicole (Adam) and Laura (Dean); and great-grandchildren Ayla, Jack and Charlie, nieces Maureen, Elizabeth and Janet, nephews, John and Grant.

Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband, Hugh; parents, Julius and Katarina Martens; brother, Cornelius Martens (Anne); niece, Bonita Martens; mother-in-law, Dorothy; and sister-in-law, Joan (Mo).

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Magnolia Gardens. Your care, commitment and compassion are very much appreciated by the whole family, we will always be grateful to you all.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct 17 2026 at 10:30am
