Born in de Beemster, Netherlands, Johannes Hendrikus Nootebos (John) was the sixth of eight children. His parents instilled in them a strong work ethic, but an even stronger love of God.

At the age of seventeen, John and his family embarked upon the biggest adventure of their lives by boarding a ship and moving to Canada. They settled in Cloverdale in 1959. Many years of hard work in farming, the sawmill, and drywall followed.

In the winter of 1970, John met Nellie Vandenborn. They fell in love and married the next year. In 1972 their first born Kevin arrived. Soon came Jason, Danny, Sonja and Rodney. May 29th, 2026 was their 55th wedding anniversary.

Our beloved John/Dad/Opa: his greatest treasure has always been his Faith and Family. He will be immensely missed by his surviving siblings, his children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and their spouses, and three great-grandchildren.

Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 7:00 pm at Precious Blood Parish (17475 59 Ave, Surrey, BC V3S 1P3)

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 11:00 am, Rev. Rodney Nootebos, celebrant. 

Burial at Gardens of Gethsemani on Wedensday, June 10, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
