It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gregory Hunter Joughin, of New Westminster BC.
He was taken too early by cancer at age 55, on Friday August 28, 2026.
Greg is survived by his loving and devoted wife Akiko Miyazaki, his cherished parents Phil & Eleanor Joughin, and his brother and sister-in-law Chris & Andrea Joughin.
After earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UBC, Greg built a career as a Professional Engineer, most recently working as a project manager in the oil and gas industry.
Greg participated in the JET program (Japan Exchange & Teaching) starting in 1996, and continued as a very active member of JETAABC (JET Alumni Association of BC) to this day. His work on the Board of Directors and events such as Japan Bowl was very important to him.
He loved live music and frequently went to concerts and shows of all sizes. He cherished time with his friends watching Formula One races or going to movies.
Greg also loved Dragonboating, paddling with several teams over the years. He was very proud of building and leading the JETAABC team in the 2015/16 season.
A celebration of his life is still in the works. The venue and date will be announced in upcoming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to BC Cancer or the Vancouver Food Bank.

Greg was one of the finest Canadians I have ever known. He had a big heart and was passionate about JETAA in his own quiet way. Always a pleasure to have around and a helpful addition to any group. I miss you, my friend.
