Gregory Erskine Johnson passed away peacefully December 9, 2025, in Mission BC at age 78 of natural causes.
He was predeceased by his brother David and parents Roy and Margaret Johnson, of Old Barns, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his sisters Cathy Johnson Taylor ( Andrew) of Coquitlam, Valerie of Ottawa, Maria-Lynn (Marc) of Revelstoke, as well as nephew Aaron (Brodie) of Revelstoke and niece Emily (Benton) of Salmon Arm.
He enjoyed writing, hiking, swimming, x-country skiing, biking, reading, photography and had a quirky sense of humour.
In his youth he attended Central Colchester High School near Truro where he was Class Valedictorian and was active in Sea Cadets, and president of Key Club (Junior Kiwanis). He later attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.
In his early 20s he moved to Alberta and later BC. He travelled extensively in Europe and taught English in France, lived and worked in Australia for 5 years. He received an English degree from the University of BC. He taught and tutored many non-English speakers several of whom became his long-time friends.
Amiable and easy going, the last 20 years he lived in Coquitlam in a seniors building until he developed Alzheimer’s. He will be missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Residence In Mission (TRIM ) who provided professional, caring, respectful support since March for both Gregory and his family members.
Any donations to the Alzheimer's Society in Greg's memory would be appreciated.
