Gerben married Sandra (née Elzinga), his “one and only”in 1970, and they built their home in the Fraser Valley, BC.
Gerben was a people person, and Tim Hortons was his office. He cared deeply for others and could relate to anyone and everyone, from a shoemaker to a king.
He was, is and forever shall remain a living member of the church of Jesus Christ. Even as he was dying, he continued to ask about the particular needs of various congregations. His great desire was that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would trust in Jesus and obey all that he has commanded.
Gerben is survived by his beloved Sandra, their eleven children, twenty-six grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Gerben has now entered into the joy of his master, is more alive than ever, and awaits that glorious day when King Jesus will return to raise him in glory, granting him his resurrection body and the fullness of God’s great salvation.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.” - Matthew 25:23

I had the priviledge of knowing Gerben and Sandra for a short period of time of which they grew so close in my heart. May the Lord bless you and give you strength. I continue to listen to the hymns that Gerben use to love.
