Dr. Laura [Lory] Mendinueto Sibal, DMD
We are deeply saddened to share that †Laura [Lory] Sibal passed to meet the Lord on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
She is lovingly remembered by her nephew, Benjamin (Louise) Charlie and Izzy, and her niece Donna, Theo and Michaela. She was predeceased by her sister, Gilda Sibal Laggui.
Lory was born in Binalonan Pangasinan Sep 5, 1948, daughter of Modesta Mendinueto Sibal - Teacher / Principal, and Benjamin Romero Sibal - Photographer. Highly intelligent, Lory was valedictorian at South Elementary and 1st Honourable mention at Holy Child Academy. As a partial scholar at University of the East, she graduated as Doctor of Dental Medicine, DMD, placing 2nd in the 1974 National Dental Board Exam. Immediately upon graduation, the Dean of College Dentistry offered her a teaching position where she joined the faculty as a university professor until 1977.
Lory loved to travel, to serve and to help people smile. In 1977 she immigrated to Manitoba, Canada to join Gilda -who would soon be pregnant with her 2nd child- and Lory would lovingly support her niece and nephew, and their future children as they were her own children. Lory earned the highest mark for Manitoba’s Dental Assistants challenge Exam and moved with her family to BC, Canada where she would continue serving and helping people smile as a supporting technical team member at an Orthodontic clinic.
Lory passionately explored the world on vacation and faithfully supported Faith, family and friends at home and often visited family and friends across Asia, North America while exploring across Europe and the Holy Land. She bravely tried new cuisines such as frog legs, alligator and was never shy about expressing favor for home-town balut and puto.
A devout Catholic, Lory authentically served Our Triune God and the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a very active member and volunteer of faith communities at her St. Mathews, St. Bernadette and OLGC parishes across various prayer groups - others mention how she enthusiastically volunteered to serve as many she could, especially supporting Parish funerals. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Catholic Women's League - St. Matthew's Parish, CFC Handmaids Of The Lord - Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, or to whichever cause is close to your heart.
