Myron died suddenly on May 27th at his home in Port Moody, B.C., just shy of his 79th birthday.  His unexpected passing has been a profound shock to everyone who knew him.

Myron was born in Lac La Biche, Alberta in 1945, and spent his younger years in Alberta before moving to B.C. in 1983. He was pre-deceased by his parents Helen and Ben Johnson, brother Bruce, and brothers-in-law Mike Wilson and Larry Sand.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Verna Conrad, daughters Carly (Eric) and Lorena (Melvyn), beloved grandchildren Lukas, Nina, and Alex, sister Doris Bessie, brothers Brent and Loyd (Leona), sisters-in-law Madalyn and Patty, and brother-in-law Gerry (Bert), as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Myron was a student of politics, a voracious reader and clear-eyed writer, and a lover of the outdoors.  He spent many happy days hiking, biking, canoeing, and camping, and travelled widely throughout Europe, Australia, and North America.  He loved the natural beauty of B.C., where he lived for over 40 years, but remained deeply attached to his roots in Alberta.

He held many jobs over the years.  He was a reporter for the Medicine Hat News, a political aide to Grant Notley, a columnist for the Edmonton Journal, a producer for CBC Radio Vancouver, and the editor of the B.C. Telecommunications Workers’ Union newspaper.  After his retirement in 2004 he remained active in the community, volunteering for local races and serving on the board of Meals on Wheels.

Myron’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.  He was a patient and loving father who spent countless hours reading to his daughters, teaching them card games and taking them on biking trips and adventures.  He was thrilled to do it all again in later years with his three grandchildren.  As we mourn his passing, we know that his kindness, wisdom, and love of literature and nature will live on through us.

A memorial service will be held at the Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel (11969 216 Street) on Saturday, June 8th at 10:00 am.

The memorial, slideshow and eulogies were great tributes to such a wonderful man. Thank you for allowing us, in Alberta to watch the recording. We have a better understanding on who Myron was and regret not keeping in better touch with him. Myron will be missed and was a great gift to all who knew him. Bless you all, Verna and family as you grieve.
love from Myron's cousin, Linda (Drysdale) and Larry Tutt.
