Life Choices To Put On Hold If You're Grieving

When you’re grieving the demise of a loved family member, it’s never a good idea to make any major life choices. Death can take a very severe physical and emotional toll on the survivors, which means it’s the worst time to make any serious decisions. Some of the big life choices to put on hold if you’re grieving include:

1. Relocating To A New Home

If you’re considering selling your existing home or relocating just because a loved one passed, this decision should be delayed for at least five to six months. This is because a number of different stressors that you are experiencing can have an impact on your decision.

2. Discarding Reminders, Keepsakes And The Mementos

If you have been overtaken by emotion at some point of time and done/said something that you later regretted, it important that you don’t trash any photographs, reminders, keepsakes etc. of your loved one when you are grieving. It is true that these items act as triggers especially when your grief is still a very fresh in your mind, but you should desist from discarding them.

3. Switching Jobs

It isn’t uncommon for grievers to find that they are unable to return to work easily, which is why they sometimes contemplate quitting their job and looking for a new career or job. When there are a number of different factors that can contribute to this particular feeling it is best that you do not take the decision at this point of time. Give it at least six months before you decide that you want to quit.

Aside from this, it is also important that you do not make any drastic changes to your finances. After a few months, when your grief has abated a little bit, and you’re able to think rationally, you will be in a better position to take major life decisions.
